Just arrived in Florence.

Travel weary, we spent the day lounging by the pool and playing hide and seek with the Tuscan sun. We've reached the mid-way point of our little adventure.

With knights in armor, crossbowmen, and people dressed like the Berries and Cream guy, the Siena horse race was short but awesome. There were no rules, and the riders could beat each other with rods, but there was more danger off the track than on it. After a heated shoving match with an overly enthusiastic crowd, we found our spots just in time to see a guy get beaned in the head by a rogue flag toss.

We found a piano at one of the local bars run by a man named Massimo. We convinced Eddy to play a set. I joined in on harmonica while Dan warmed up the crowd. Afterward Massimo served us these incredibly strong sangrias that made Dan and Eddy stumble around for a few minutes. Might be time for some mountain hiking tomorrow if we're all 100%.

I split my arm open after swimming out to a slippery rock and trying to climb up the wrong side. I'm fine, but I will be spending more time on land.

The beach is beautiful here in Vernazza. Cool little mountain town right on the water. Packed with tourists though.

Goodbye Rome, we'll see you again in a week or so. Now we're off to catch a train to Cinque Terre.

So after doing the Gregory Peck thing yesterday, we ran into some skinheads who weren't too talkative. Today we went over to the Pope's house. He wasn't too talkative either.

Scooters are definitely the way to get around Rome. Skip the €25 Roma Pass and rent one of these babies instead. €50 for a day, but worth it.
